Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam - extension
Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam - extension
In the courtyard of Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam, 40 additional hotel rooms and an underground parking were realised. The beautiful building, designed in the Amsterdam School architectural style, was extended in style, matching the buildings across the street.
Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam opened its doors in 2007, after thorough renovation of the historic Scheepvaarthuis building. In 2017, the extension left the five-star hotel with 205 rooms, including 23 new suites, 17 new ordinary rooms and 28 new parking spaces in two layers.
The design is by Kentie en Partners, for construction we worked with De Nijs.

Extended school De Ring, IJmuiden
Extended school De Ring, IJmuiden
The replacement sports hall in IJmuiden is located in the new extended school centre the Ring, along with a sports café, primary school and play group. A winding plinth connects the building’s parts. A lot of possibilities were created for education and sports to function optimally by linking areas and sharing provisions. Each user can be recognised by their use of colour and each has its own entry leading to the shared area in the heart of the building.
Environmental measures far beyond guidelines
Design elements like the compact shape of the building, high insulation values and use of natural light reduce the use of energy. In addition, the Ring has sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies including a sedum roof, solar panels and solar-powered boilers. Also, by adding mass to the construction, an consistent indoor climate is created. Furthermore, thermal energy storage is applied in the piling (geothermal piles). 255 of 355 piles are connected to the heating system.
At its own clubs, Pellikaan uses the BaOpt system (Bauer Optimisation). This is the first time we installed it for an external client. BaOpt is a high-tech regulating system for indoor climate installations, based on the latest control- and sensor technologies. It takes the occupancy in the rooms into account and keeps air quality perfect that way. Installations with BaOpt used less energy than the others.
Using these and other technologies, the Ring has a GPR score (municipal guidelines for sustainability) of 9.04 whilst only 6 is required.

David Lloyd Club Newbury
David Lloyd Club Newbury
Pellikaan won the tender for the Design & Build construction of the new David Lloyd Club in Newbury. Our detailed knowledge and understanding of the requirements and wishes applicable for this type of club contributed to our ability to prepare the winning bid. We used our experience working for the chain on previous projects as well as our expertise gained from operating Club Pellikaan leisure centres in The Netherlands.
The high-end family club in Newbury was fitted with the latest design, equipment and technology. The centre offers an indoor kids pool as well as indoor and outdoor 20 meter pools. The spa area requires separate access and features a hydropool, relax areas, heated benches, steam room and saunas, an ice machine and a feature shower. Also access to the sauna garden with outdoor hydropool is through the spa area. On the second floor, two large studios and a dedicated spinning studio find their place, alongside a large gym and two squash courts. Of course, there is outdoor and covered tennis at this David Lloyd Club as well. Changing areas, a DLicious bar/restaurant area and lounge and a modern DL Kids zone complete the offer.

Wyre Forest Leisure Centre, Kidderminster
Wyre Forest Leisure Centre, Kidderminster
The attractive design of the new Wyre Forest Leisure Centre inspires people to take part in a host of sports activities. Apart from a 25m competition pool with seating for spectators, visitors can use the learner pool, which has a moveable floor to accommodate different activities. The wet area also offers a sauna & steamroom.
The 6 court sports hall is suitable for many different sports and because of its dividing wall, it can be used by several groups at the same time. Furthermore a fitness suite, cycling studio and two dance studios are on offer as well as a seven meter high climbing wall and Kid’s Play area. Other areas include reception, café with seating area, offices, changing areas etc. Externally, six synthetic surface MUGA pitches – a 7-a-side pitch and five 5-a-side leisure pitches – have been provided as well as parking space. Have a look at the 3D Flythrough here.
In a team with operator Places for People Leisure, Roberts Limbrick Architects and project managers Press & Starkey, Pellikaan was responsible for the design and build construction of the new facilities. Having worked together on similar projects before, the team was able to work efficiently with the council to complete the PPP contract for the design, build, operation and maintenance of the centre in an exceptionally short period of time. Wyre Forest District Council expects to save over £ 390,000 a year with these new facilities because “the new centre is more sustainable and the contractor will be paying the council a management fee to run the facility”. Sports Hall Hoffenheim „Am großen Wald“
Sports Hall Hoffenheim „Am großen Wald“
On the location of the old school sports hall in Hoffenheim, a new 2 storey sports hall was erected.
Most of the ground floor is used for an indoor artificial football pitch for the youth teams of Bundesliga Club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Apart from that, there is a sprint track and gym areas for strength and coordination trainings.
The first floor is a full height sports hall which can be separated in three parts for simultaneous use by multiple groups. The hall, which has the floor markings for all usual indoor sports, also has an extractable climbing wall.
The changing areas and storage areas are accessible for all, just like the rest op the building. The large glass elevation ensures that the Foyer offers a good atmosphere for events for the school and the sports clubs using the building.
This is the second project that Pellikaan built with the Dietmar Hopp Foundation, the first was a school sports hall in St-Leon Rot.

Hinckley Leisure Centre
Hinckley Leisure Centre
The PPP contract for design, construction and operation of Hinckley’s new leisure centre was won by Places for People, who partnered up with Robert Limbrick Architects and Pellikaan. In one of the council’s press releases, Council Leader, Stuart Bray, said: “Residents will get outstanding facilities (…) and a significant financial return over and above the cost of delivery, which will support other services for the next 20 years. This is a clear ‘win-win’ for local people!”
The 8-lane, 25 metre main pool with viewing areas as well as the learner pool have moveable floors. Further wet facilities include a family splash area and sauna and steam rooms. The dry sports facilities include an 8-court sports hall, large gym and several dance and spinning studios. In addition there is a multipurpose / meeting room, a café and dedicated office space for the operator as well as the council. The area around the new leisure centre is landscaped and a clear, grassed play area suitable for school and community use was formed, as well as car parking facilities.

West Bromwich Leisure Centre
West Bromwich Leisure Centre
Places for People Leisure (previously DC Leisure) was chosen to design, build, run and maintain the new West Bromwich Leisure Centre. Designed by Roberts Limbrick Architects, the centre offers a 25m pool, learner pool, sauna and steam room, a four-court sports hall, fitness suite, dance studios, a dedicated children’s adventure area and a café.
As main contractor, Pellikaan was involved from the tender stage, working closely with Places for People Leisure and Roberts Limbrick to develop this high quality and feasible design and build sports complex.
Local involvement was an important factor for this DBOM project, stimulated by the enthusiasm and support of Sandwell Council. The centre benefits students by providing training and employment opportunities, which already started during construction when local students were involved. Collaboration with the council’s organisation “Think Local” enabled Pellikaan to optimise local involvement during the process: a good 70% of works was subcontracted locally.

As part of the Tadworth development, a new location was also found for the Phoenix Youth Centre. The youth centre offers a training kitchen, computer area, one-to-on and group work rooms, youth worker office, activity hall, music facilities, a chill-out area, and an outdoor youth area.
